On May 31, 2023, T.O.P announced on SNS that he had already left BIGBANG.

T.O.P ended his exclusive contract with YG Entertainment in February 2022.

In an interview in 2025, he talked about the reason for leaving BIGBANG as follows.

On March 11, 2019, Seungri announced his retirement from the entertainment industry through his SNS and left BIGBANG.

At the time, the Burning Sun Incident became a major social issue, and S.I. was also investigated and indicted on multiple charges including sex trafficking, habitual gambling, and embezzlement.

In the subsequent trial, he was found guilty of a total of nine crimes and sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison in May 2022.

After serving his sentence, he was released from prison on February 9, 2023.

As of August 2026, no official return to the entertainment industry has been announced.
