BirthdayJAPAN staff:When did you become a fan of Dahyun?

Mr. Lin: TWICE is a group that debuted in 2015, and the reason we first started paying attention to them was because Tzuyu was a member.

After that, I started watching Korean variety shows and learned about Dahyun.

The time I finally really got into it was with ``What is Love?''

BirthdayJAPAN staff:What attracted you to Dahyun?

Mr. Lin: In 2018, when I went to Korea after graduating from high school, it coincided with Tzuyu's birthday, so I went to give her a card.

From that day on, I decided to start pushing in earnest.

Around that time, ``What is Love?'' was released, and I was really drawn to the overall atmosphere of the song.

Also, Dahyun's variety skills are very high, and her reactions are unique and interesting, which I think is her big charm.

 

BirthdayJAPAN staff: Dahyun is a really charming person.

What else do you think is attractive?

Mr. Lin: I think it's a gap after all!

Although she is very bright and energetic in front of everyone, she is very quiet in her private life.

Also, he takes his fans seriously and is extremely kind.

 

BirthdayJAPAN staff:Do you have any specific anecdotes?

Mr. Lin:I have attended concerts in Japan and America.

Dahyun spoke to fans in Japanese in Japan, Indonesian in Indonesia, and English in America.

Although he must not be very good at English, I could see that he was trying his best to memorize it and speak it.

What's more, it's really funny, and before they give their message to the fans, you can hear them muttering something into the microphone, and you realize, "Oh, I guess they're checking the words they just memorized."

I really felt Dahyun's sincere feelings towards her fans when she tried to learn and speak the language of that country for her fans.

BirthdayJAPAN staff:Mr. Lin, what kind of messages and activities do you do?

Mr. Lin:The main purpose of my birthday in 2023 was to raise funds together, and at that time I posted images on Instagram.

Also, in 2022, we placed an advertisement in New York's Times Square, and at that time we often posted announcements on X and asked for fans to participate.

 

BirthdayJAPAN staff: Was Lin the organizer of the Times Square advertisement?

Mr. Lin: At that time, I was the only organizer.

But actually, it's not that difficult to place an ad in New York's Times Square.

Anyone can download the dedicated app, place an order from there, pass the video review, and place an advertisement.

At the time, it was just a random idea, and a few days before my birthday I thought to myself, ``I want to do this!'' Within a few days, I edited the video and applied for an advertisement.

As for the funds, I started by raising the funds myself, and later asked for fans who wanted to support me on social media.

The support activities began with the spread of the advertising voting project. The impetus was a desire to “want more people to know about it”

BirthdayJAPAN staff:What other activities do you do?

Mr. Lin: Three or four years ago, we ran light box advertisements for the MRT (subway) in Taiwan.

In fact, I often hear people say, ``I became interested in this idol after watching your videos and introductions. Before I knew it, I became a fan,'' and I felt that the advertising effect was quite effective.

That's why I personally continue to promote myself on social media.

 

BirthdayJAPAN staff: I'm glad to see such a reaction.

What made you decide to start your current activity?

Mr. Lin: At that time, I often retweeted information about voting events held by Korean advertising companies.

It was a system where idols with the most votes could be given free advertisements, so we encouraged everyone to actively participate.

Of course, such activities have certain effects, but I also believe that there is another kind of influence that comes from communicating from a fan's perspective.

The main purpose is that I want more people to know about Oshi.

 

BirthdayJAPAN staff:When did you start your activities?

Mr. Lin:From around 2018, I began to see support activities like this being carried out continuously for the members of Yu.

I started to feel like I wanted to try it myself.

The fact that Dahyun is happy is the driving force for the fans.

BirthdayJAPAN staff:Are there any things that make you think it was a good idea to carry out promotional advertising?

Mr. Lin: I think Dahyun is an idol who gives solid reactions to her fans.

When I ran an ad a few years ago, it didn't seem to have reached her yet, but when I posted an ad at a bus stop near my agency in South Korea in May 2024, she actually posted an authentication shot taken in front of it on SNS.

Also, in 2024, Japanese fans will hold an event in South Korea.BirthdayI also attended a cafe, where I was able to actually meet Dahyun.

Personally, when I put out endorsement ads in the past, I didn't do it just to get the person to see it, but when I see later that Dahyun is responding properly and trying to participate in the ads, I think, ``Ah, I'm glad I did it.''

If Dahyun is happy, us fans will be happy too, and it will make us want to work harder.

 

BirthdayJAPAN staff:Lin tooBirthdayDid you meet Dahyun at the cafe?

Mr. Lin: Yes, Dahyun actually came to the cafe that day.

First, I ordered coffee and after I signed an autograph for the organizer, he seemed to recognize me and even gave me a special autograph, even though I wasn't the organizer.

After that, fans naturally started lining up and signing autographs for each of them on the spot, creating a very warm atmosphere.

A special promotional ad that connects Dahyun and New York that still remains in our hearts.

BirthdayJAPAN staff:Among the promotional advertisements you have published so far, are there any that have left an impression on you or that you like?

Mr. Lin: Out of all the advertisements I've put out so far, the most memorable one is the one in New York's Times Square.

At that time, Dahyun was an ambassador for a high-end brand and often participated in New York Fashion Week.

Although she was not in New York during that period, Dahyun became the first member of the group to post a personal advertisement in Times Square.

BirthdayJAPAN staff: That was a memorable ad!

Even in TaiwanBirthdayAds are increasing! What is the local advertising situation?

BirthdayJAPAN staff:BirthdayWhat challenges did you face when implementing the advertisement?

Mr. Lin:For example, when running promotional advertisements through crowdfunding, it is necessary to continually check income and expenditures and report progress to fans, which is a bit complicated and time-consuming.

On top of that, I also edit promotional images and advertising videos myself, so overall it really takes up a lot of my time.

 

BirthdayJAPAN staff: Among Taiwanese fansBirthdayDo you do more advertising in the form of crowdfunding than individuals?

Mr. Lin:In the past, it seems that there were many cases of advertising through crowdfunding, but recently there may have been a strong tendency to advertise on your own.

That way, you can avoid complicated procedures such as collecting funds.

When doing crowdfunding, I think it's becoming more common to invite acquaintances and other interested people to do it together.

 

BirthdayJAPAN staff: Also in TaiwanBirthdayDo you often see advertisements?

Mr. Lin:I think the number is increasing rapidly.

The targets of support are diverse, including Taiwanese, Korean, Chinese, and Japanese entertainers.

 

BirthdayJAPAN staff:BirthdayWhich cities in Taiwan are popular when advertising?

Mr. Lin: Taipei. In particular, Taipei's MRT (subway), buses, outdoor visions, and cafes are popular.

Mr. Lin:Select based mainly on the location where the target audience for the advertisement is located.

For example, Gongguan Station is a popular area where many young people gather, and advertising rates are relatively low.

On the other hand, many people also choose places like Taipei 101, but the prices are not that cheap.

After my experience of advertising in New York's Times Square, I felt that the effect wasn't as good as I had hoped, so I'm thinking of placing more emphasis on location selection in the future.

For example, in Korea, it's easier to get noticed by the idols themselves, and it's easier to get them to participate and respond.

 

BirthdayJAPAN staff:Are there any recommended advertisements you would like to do in the future?

Mr. Lin:In the next two to three years, I would like to hold an exhibition event at a cafe, and I would like to make it possible for fans to purchase the photos displayed on the wall.
